NDIS Explained: NDIS Registered Providers Vs Unregistered Providers

Service providers are an important part of the NDIS. They can be individuals or organisations through which various supports and services get delivered to the participants. There are two types of service providers under the NDIS: registered NDIS service providers and unregistered service providers. Registered providers are the ones who chose to officially register with the NDIS. The registered tag indicates that they satisfy the standards for safety
and quality specified in the NDIS Practice Standards. But that doesn’t mean that the quality of services provided by the unregistered providers is inferior. It just indicates that they didn’t choose to go through the official registration process. Both registered and unregistered providers are required to comply with the NDIS Code of Conduct.

Once the participant has decided on the support and services that they may need, they can reach out to providers who best suit their needs. Participants have the freedom to choose the type of provider but their NDIS plan has to be either self-managed or plan-managed for them to access the services of an unregistered provider. NDIA-managed participants are only allowed to choose registered NDIS service providers. Having plan management in the NDIS
plan is an advantage for the participants as it expands their choice of providers. There are many capable service providers out there. Some providers choose not to register with the NDIS because of the tedious process and financial limitations.

Plan Guard plan managers can help you access the services of both registered and unregistered service providers by helping you get plan management included in your NDIS plan. This will provide you with the opportunity to meet many competent providers before making your decision. By choosing plan management, you will gain more ‘choice and control’ over the support and services that you receive. Reach out to us to know more about our plan management services.
