Learn More about Your Rights as an NDIS Participant

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) helps millions of Australians with disabilities to lead a life of dignity and respect. It is a national scheme which provides funding directly to the participants to access various disability support and services. A scheme as innovative and important as the NDIS comes with its own set of rules and regulations to keep the participants safe. As a participant, one must be aware of their rights and responsibilities to lawfully use their NDIS funding.

The participant has the right to choose who will deliver their support and how it will be delivered. Ensuring the ‘choice and control’ of the participants over the support and services that they receive is one of the fundamental principles of the NDIS. Participants have the right to refuse services from a provider if they are not satisfied and they are well within their right to question any conflict of interest that the provider may have. But the participant has to ensure that they are serving notice to the service providers regarding the termination of services as per the time period stipulated in the service agreement. Under the NDIS, participants can choose the extent of personal information that they want to share with the providers and have the right not to feel forced to buy any services that they don’t need.
